Commencing Friday, December 15, 2023, commuters traveling on Highway 1 south of Spences Bridge will experience expedited travel times with the introduction of two-way traffic. This development follows a meticulous two-year reconstruction effort initiated in the aftermath of the 2021 floods.

The Falls Creek Bridge (Jackass Mountain), situated 55 kilometers south of Spences Bridge, will open to single lanes in each direction, replacing the temporary single-lane bridge that had been in service since the culvert washout in 2021. A new three-lane permanent Falls Creek bridge, currently under construction and slated for completion next year, is anticipated to significantly enhance traffic flow and withstand severe weather conditions.

During the construction phase, drivers are advised to adhere to reduced speed limits to ensure the safety of all road users.
