In order to increase safety and efficiency on Highway 1 in the Shuswap region, the Province is inviting prospective builders to pre-qualify to participate in the bridge replacement project. This marks the beginning of the next phase of the R.W. Bruhn Bridge replacement project.

2.5 kilometers of Highway 1 will be improved because of the project, including 1.9 kilometers of newly constructed four lanes, the replacement of the deteriorating R.W. Bruhn Bridge with a four-lane structure, and upgrades to the intersections of Old Sicamous Road and Silver Sands Road.

Noting the importance of the project area to the Nation and the need to minimize environmental impacts, the Province is developing the project design in collaboration with Splatsin First Nation.

Highway 1 will be closed at the intersection of Old Spallumcheen Road upon completion of the project. Local traffic will now travel beneath the bridge, with access to Highway 1 at Old Sicamous Road, both directions being accessible.
