Canada Labour Code Update - LUNCH & LEARN - FULL

The modernization of the Canada Labour Code and Canada Labour Standards Regulations is underway! Legislative and regulatory changes affecting federally regulated workplaces have commenced.

Do the Canada Labour Code and Canada Labour Standards Regulations affect your trucking operation and attract federal jurisdiction?

Generally, the federal government has jurisdiction over employment matters of a road transportation company if the operation:

  • provides extra-provincial services on a continuous and regular basis, or
  • provides such services on an unscheduled basis but holds itself out to the public as being ready at any time to provide such services without interruption to its normal customer or service base.

In either of above situations, the road transportation company is subject to federal jurisdiction with respect to employment matters by virtue of the nature of its business, regardless of whether the extra-provincial portion of the operation is greater or lesser than that portion carried on in the province.

Business owners, senior management and HR personnel are encouraged to attend to learn about current legislative and regulatory changes affecting federally regulated workplaces.
