Langley, British Columbia - Murray Scadeng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the British Columbia Trucking Association (BCTA), today announced that Paul Landry will be leaving as President & CEO of BCTA no later than June 30, 2011. Landry has served the Langley-based trucking association since May 1994. Among other achievements, he doubled direct motor carrier membership to about 500 companies and developed strategic alliances that allowed BCTA to speak on behalf of 800 motor carrier companies.

“Paul’s contribution to the ongoing success of BCTA is well known to all of our members,” noted Scadeng. “When Paul was recruited to become the BCTA President in 1994, he was asked to broaden BCTA’s carrier base, provide leadership on a broad range of policy issues, establish BCTA as a credible and respected advocate for the industry with government, the media and the public and to secure BCTA’s financial future.  I am pleased to say that, in every way, he’s delivered."

BCTA’s motor carrier base involves a wide range of sectors including private trucking (movement of own goods), waste management, couriers and for-hire, over-the-road trucking. BCTA also represents the vast majority of motor coach companies operating in BC.

The long lead time is designed to allow ample opportunity to search for an appropriate replacement. Landry also intends to remain on hand to assist in a smooth transition for his successor.

"These are exciting and challenging times and BCTA has a lot on its plate over the coming months,” Landry said. “I will continue to work with the Board until a new CEO is appointed. The experience of charting BCTA’s route over the past 16 years and more has been exceptional, and I look forward to applying what I’ve learned to new opportunities that may arise."

BCTA is the recognised voice of the provincial motor carrier industry, representing over 800 truck and bus fleets and over 250 suppliers to the industry. Over 13,000 vehicles are operated by BCTA members in BC. BCTA operating members employ 26,000 people in BC and generate over $2 billion in revenue in the province annually.
