Transportation Sales Job Description

Established in 1954, Berry and Smith Trucking is a family Owned and Operated transportation company providing class leading transportation services to our customers throughout North America.  We’re seeking an experienced sales professional to generate sales and go above and beyond to ensure our clients’ needs are being met.

This full-time position will be accountable with ensuring the trucking operations have more work than they can handle in a variety of lanes at profitable rates.  You’ll need to be a good listener, a doer, an effective communicator, personable, motivated, organized and excel at finding solutions for customers.

 

Responsibilities:

-Researching, identifying and solidifying new business opportunities for the company with existing and new customers via in person meetings, cold calls, or other remote methods.

-Manage contract rate renewals, bid proposals, new customer contacts, and provide rate quotes to new and existing clients as well as routinely reviewing rates to ensure they remain profitable for the company.

-Establish, negotiate and maintain contracts with clients while collaborating and consulting with operations staff, ensuring needs are met for both Berry and Smith and client.

-Hold regular sales meetings with operations staff to identify operational issues, needs, trends and performance gaps and brainstorm strategies for new sales campaigns and generate strategic plans to resolve these issues, meet targets and better service customers.

-Periodic travel on sales trips to maintain and establish new business opportunities and relationships.  Attend conferences and events, representing Berry and Smith, networking and establishing new sales leads.

-Document and review all interactions with customers, providing regular sales reports to management and operations staff.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:

-Loyalty, integrity and intelligence.

-Organized and personable.

-Comprehensive understanding of the transportation industry.

-Strong ability to generate sales leads, review benefits, handle objections, and close the sale.   Proven experience in a previous sales role preferred.

-Excellent interpersonal, emotional intelligence and communications skills with the ability to give effective written and verbal presentations in the English language.

-Computer skills with familiarity in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams/Zoom and PowerPoint).

-Ability to develop business and positive customer relations both in person and remotely.  Strong teamwork skills to work with operations staff to establish needs and generate profitable sales from continued growth of current customers and new clients.

-Possession of a valid class 5 license and ability to travel as required for sales trips and conferences throughout Canada and the US.

-Preparedness to work on a six-month probation period.

-Good physical and mental health and have satisfactory results from a doctor’s and/nurses medical.

-Compliance with Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy.

-Good health and satisfactory result from doctor or nurse’s medial.
