Job Description
Position Overview:
Working independently with some guidance from the Fleet Supervisor, directs and dispatches a fleet of company and third-party carriers to carry out tractor service activities supporting Linehaul and ContainerWorld freight movement. Responsible for efficiency and effectiveness or own work and may also be responsible for efficiency and effectiveness of others in their area/department.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Efficient dispatch of company and third-party carriers for tractor service activities.
• Review workload and schedule resources as needed
• Assign tasks to drivers
• Address inquiries from internal and external customers
Equipment tracking and control
• Conduct daily yard read. Responsible for tracking all inbound and returned rental equipment
Creating outbound BOL’s
• Entering information for RDC and CW loads to LDB in Truckmate

 

Skills and Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Some Post-Secondary courses plus 2 to 3 years related experience; or specialist certificate/diploma

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

  • Judgment exercised to choose from a variety of alternatives to best meet internal and external customer needs

  • Problem solving involves independent analysis of readily available facts and identification of alternative courses of action when looking for the most cost-effective routing and scheduling

  • Some creative problem solving is required to execute assigned work

  • Provides input on priorities and policies affecting their immediate area/department

  • Verbal and written communication skills are required to interpret, advise, guide, influence and/or acquire resources to ensure clarity when issuing instructions to drivers

  • Ability to problem solve effectively as critical issues occur at any time of day or night

  • Analytical skills are required to understand performance results and find alternative methods of operation

  • Good judgment is required to resolve issues with a balance of cost and service

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word, and TMW

  • Understanding of Transportation regulations and familiarity with transport equipment specifications and applications
