Berry and Smith Trucking is a transportation provider based in Penticton, BC. We are searching for an experienced, professional driver based in the Kelowna area. This position will entail primarily driving a day cab tractor trailer unit operating locally. This position, which is federally regulated, will primarily be Monday to Friday. We are listing this as a full-time position though on occasion shifts may vary in hours. At times, this position may be required to fill in a sleeper tractor position as operational requirements dictate. Working outside regular business hours will at times be required as well as weekend work. The successful candidate must have extensive flat deck and van experience, excellent customer service skills, the ability to work physically, lift a minimum of 50 pounds and have significant experience operating commercial vehicles in tight locations.
This position will involve many local trips within the Okanagan Valley, to Vancouver and the GVRD, some trips into the USA and limited trips to Alberta when required.

-Valid Class 1 license (With Air Brake Endorsement)
-Maximum of 5 points over the past 5 years, and a satisfactory review of the driver’s abstract
-Be available and permitted to work in the USA
-Be familiar with and comply with proper cross border procedures, customs clearance and Homeland Security protocol
-Be available to work rotating shifts including day and night shifts, as work demands, and schedules dictate. (This position is a minimum of 5 days/week)
-Must be able to effectively communicate with the public, shippers and receivers, co-workers, dispatchers and customers and promote positive public relations
-Be able to effectively plan a workday and operate on an efficient time schedule
-Ability to fluently speak, comprehend and write the English language
-Ability and willingness to move into a sleeper truck to fill in or handle specific loads as operational requirements dictate
-Must have good driving skills, i.e.: braking, backing, cornering, stopping, starting, etc, and be able to safely drive through mountain, city and winter conditions
-Be familiar with and have the necessary skills and abilities to safely load, secure, tarp, transport, and unload, freight on flat deck trailers
-Must have the strength to safely unload/load freight on a regular basis
-Satisfactory WCB results and physical ability to comply with all aspects of a truck driving job. (driving/loading/unloading/strapping/tarping/chaining up)
-Be willing and able to effectively complete, understand and follow established protocols the company operates with including but not limited to safety, benchmarks for fuel consumption/idling/hard braking/RPM, hazardous materials, winter driving techniques, chain up, computer, satellite and scanning, and security
-Be willing and able to drive all trucks in the fleet as assigned
-Be familiar with logbooks and e logs and how to properly and legally comply with hours of service regulations
-Compliance with company labour rules which are federally regulated
-Be prepared to follow the seniority rules and guidelines set forth by the company
-Preparedness to work on a six-month probationary period
-Excellent customer service skills
-Satisfactory results from a Nurses Medical Examination
-Compliance with Company Drug and Alcohol Policy
-Ability to pass a road test with one of Berry and Smith’s driver trainers
