Canada will be enforcing the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate as of January 1, 2023, with no further delays expected.

The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) has advised the Canadian Trucking Alliance that all provinces and territories will be ready to start enforcement in January. However, if there are unforeseen circumstances preventing a jurisdiction from doing so, other jurisdictions will move forward.

British Columbia, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia are the remaining provinces left to finalize their regulations, and expect to begin enforcement by 2023.

Industry is advised to research ELD device options and ensure any procured ELD is a certified device as approved by Transport Canada. Approved devices can be found here as they become certified.
