Why join BCTA? Because your drivers and other employees and your trucks or buses represent more than a significant financial investment — they are the lifeblood of your business. BCTA membership protects that investment in many ways.
Government Advocacy
BCTA’s specialty is government relations. We deal with federal, provincial and municipal representatives on industry issues and free you to focus on your business. BCTA advocacy covers taxation, vehicle weights and dimensions, infrastructure development and financing, ICBC insurance, WorkSafeBC, labour and the environment. From biodiesel to emissions standards, from hours of service requirements to driver training, from truck and bus routes to transponders and tolls — if it affects you, BCTA is there on your behalf.
We make your views known, suggest alternatives that work and correct misconceptions about a proud BC industry that we are honoured to represent.

Joint Initiatives: BCTA motor carrier members receive free membership in the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) or Motor Coach Canada (MCC). We work in partnership on national and international industry issues, including taxation, safety, environmental, infrastructure and cross border requirements.
Communications
BCTA excels at keeping the public, the media and our members informed.
Large trucks and buses are highly visible on BC’s roads. As a result, people outside the industry often form opinions about commercial vehicles based on limited perceptions that can lead to punitive taxes, regulatory burdens and enforcement.
BCTA sets the record straight. We issue media releases and opinion pieces, conduct interviews and respond to media inquiries, articles and editorials. BCTA frequently appears in print and on radio and TV throughout BC and in Canadian and US trade publications.
BCTA communicates with members on industry issues in a variety of ways:
-
You will receive the latest news on the industry and BCTA initiatives, activities, events and training courses via our weekly newsletter, The Bulletin, available exclusively to members only. The newsletter provides ongoing guidance for such things as federal and provincial regulations, infrastructure restrictions, cross-border security issues, and requirements at BC’s terminals and ports. More in-depth coverage of relevant industry topics also appears in Special Bulletins as required.

- BCTA relays time-sensitive information via e-mail alerts to you or other company contacts. We maintain selective e-mail lists to ensure that you receive only the type of alerts that you require.
- Your BCTA password give you access to the Members area of this website, which contains helpful government contact and regulatory information. Find a Transporter allows you to post details about your company and services for prospective customers and shippers. BCTA also offers a free Job Postings page for members and a searchable archive of Bulletin articles.
- As a member, you will also receive a free copy of our annual Membership Roster, which lists BCTA’s Executive, Board of Directors, operating and associate members, and federal, provincial and state government officials.
In addition, BCTA staff is available to answer members’ questions Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 5 pm each day. And if we don’t know the answer, we’ll find it for you.

Employee Training
We schedule training sessions year round in our Langley classroom, including courses on the National Safety Code, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and Workplace Drug and Alcohol Training for Supervisors. To reach members throughout BC, we offer some training via webinar and periodically take special offerings on the road, including Natural Resource Canada’s Fuel Management and SmartDriver courses and a workshop on HR Essentials for the industry. As a BCTA member, you also have the exclusive opportunity to participate in pilot projects, frequently at low or no cost, for new training courses being developed by our industry partners.
What Does Membership Cost?
Membership in BCTA is a business investment that pays dividends many times over through reduced costs and enhanced opportunities. Thanks to revenue from BCTA member programs, products and courses, we have been able to maintain the same dues since 1993. BCTA membership doesn’t cost, it pays!
