Joint Initiatives

Canadian Trucking Alliance

The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) is a federation of seven provincial and regional trucking associations, including BCTA, with its head office in Ottawa.  CTA represents a broad cross-section of the trucking industry—some 4,500 carriers, owner-operators and industry suppliers.  BCTA members automatically became members of CTA, with no payment of additional membership dues.

CTA lobbies, both in Canada and the U.S., on behalf of the entire Canadian trucking industry with support and feedback from BCTA and the other provincial and regional Associations.  CTA regularly meets with key Canadian federal ministers, is in ongoing contact with political staff, Members of Parliament and a wide range of federal officials. CTA staff  also keep in regular contact with the Canadian Embassy in Washington and senior officials in numerous U.S. government departments.  In addition, CTA has developed contacts in Congress and with congressional staff.

CTA is uniquely positioned to successfully represent the industry’s viewpoint on national and international policy, regulatory and legislative issues that affect trucking and works to raise the profile of the trucking industry.  CTA regularly deals with such issues as the development of National Safety Code Standards, including changes to Canadian and U.S. hours of service, amendments to the Canada Labour Code Part III, and U.S. customs programs, including Free and Secure Trade (FAST), Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and Automated Commercial Environment (ACE).

CTA Cargo Crime Tracking Sheet

The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), in consultation with BCTA and other provincial associations, has collaborated with the Insurance Bureau of Canada to create a new “CTA Cargo Crime Incident Report” form to help establish one country-wide bank of data to assist with analysis, investigation and law enforcement related to cargo crime.

The CTA Cargo Crime Incident Report form is interactive and includes options to print the form for your records and to send the completed copy automatically to CTA via e-mail at cargocrime@cantruck.ca. A copy of the form is available for you to download here.

CTA will share the information collected with the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) only (not with individual insurers) and with the law enforcement community. The Incident Report form is confidential. The data that it collects will be reported only in aggregate so that the carrier’s identity is protected, unless the carrier provides permission to release information.

Carriers who wish to inform their insurers about an incident will still need to do so following the insurer’s reporting requirements. Please note that, while information collected will assist police in property recovery, completing and submitting the form does not guarantee its retrieval or criminal apprehension.
